From a real task to a useful result

Who this helps

For support teams, writers, educators and designers of guided workflows.

Try this example

Try the printer support example, then Find the problems. The audit identifies an unused step, a missing destination and a support step that loops without an exit.

Scope and limits

Up to 40 steps and 120 choices. Paths are examples without revisits, limited to 100 paths and 10,000 search visits; walkthroughs allow 200 steps. No conditional variables, scripting, game-engine exports or guarantee that the instructions themselves are correct.

Using Branching Scenario Tester

Test decision flows, support scripts and branching stories for broken links, unreachable steps and loops. Walk through choices and export a linked HTML guide.

  1. Start with the working example or edit the steps and choices CSV tables. Each step needs a unique ID.
  2. Choose the start step and use the step editor to refine titles and instructions.
  3. Follow the choices in the walkthrough. Review unreachable steps, missing destinations, cycles and routes without endings.
  4. Export path examples, the review report, a diagram or a linked HTML guide that works without JavaScript.

Example

Try the printer support example, then Find the problems. The audit identifies an unused step, a missing destination and a support step that loops without an exit.

Questions & answers

Are loops always a mistake?

No. A retry can be intentional. The tool flags reachable cycles and separately identifies reachable steps with no route to any ending.

What counts as an ending?

A step with no outgoing choices. A choice pointing to a missing step is a broken link, not a valid ending.

Does it list every possible path?

It lists bounded examples that never revisit a step. Loops are not expanded, and a partial-list notice appears when a search limit is reached. Structural checks still inspect the entire supplied graph.

Can I share a walkthrough without an account?

Yes. Download linked HTML. It contains the step text and internal navigation links, works offline and needs no scripts.

Can I keep my work for later?

Save project downloads your inputs and settings as JSON. Open project restores them. Undo and redo are available during this tab session; there is no automatic project save.
