Questions & answers

Why not multiply the age by seven?

Dog development is faster in the first two years, and aging differs between breeds and sizes. The fixed seven-year rule is an oversimplification.

Is this an exact biological age?

No. Human-equivalent age is a rough comparison and is not a diagnosis, health score or lifespan estimate.

Can I use the research formula for any breed?

It is labeled separately because the underlying comparison used Labrador retrievers. It is not a universal breed-adjusted model. This tool limits it to ages 1–16.

Where does the method come from?

The American Kennel Club describes the general medium-sized dog guideline and the Labrador research formula. A source link is shown with the result.
