Finite Difference Sequence Explorer
Build an exact finite-difference table for equally spaced integer data and explore a clearly labeled polynomial continuation.
Explore the example, or adjust the inputs. Save a project to keep your settings.
A useful starting point
1, 4, 9, 16, 25 has first differences 3, 5, 7, 9 and constant second differences 2. The polynomial continuation starts 36, 49, 64.
Scope and limits
2–30 equally spaced integer values up to 50 digits; 0–30 extra terms. This is a polynomial assumption, not a forecast or a proof of the true sequence rule.
Calculations run in your browser. Projects are saved only when you download them. Website advertising and analytics follow the privacy and consent settings. Import large integer CSV columns as text in spreadsheets to preserve their digits.
Using Finite Difference Sequence Explorer
Build an exact finite-difference table for equally spaced integer data and explore a clearly labeled polynomial continuation.
- Choose a worked example or enter your own values in the labeled controls.
- Adjust the available options. Results refresh when you leave a field or choose an option.
- Review the result summary, interpretation and calculation table. Check any explicit limits or assumptions.
- Copy the text or download TXT, CSV or JSON. Save a project to reopen the same inputs later.
Example
1, 4, 9, 16, 25 has first differences 3, 5, 7, 9 and constant second differences 2. The polynomial continuation starts 36, 49, 64.
Questions & answers
Does this discover the true next number?
No. Infinitely many rules can fit a finite list. The result assumes the last difference stays constant and is labeled as a polynomial continuation.
What if my measurements use irregular time intervals?
Do not use them directly here. This table assumes equal spacing and does not fit irregular x-coordinates.
Can I save and reopen my settings?
Yes. Save project downloads a JSON file for this tool. Open project restores it; undo and redo work during the current session.
Does the table contain every result?
The table is paginated in groups of 50. Downloads contain all listed rows. The partition tool intentionally caps its example listing while reporting the full exact count.
