How to edit a GIF
- Open a GIF: choose a file, drop it on the editor or paste it with Ctrl+V. You can also combine PNG, JPEG or WebP images into a new animation.
- Select frames in the timeline under the preview. Click one frame, Shift-click a range, Ctrl-click to add or remove, and drag frames to reorder them.
- Edit with the tabs: Frames for durations, speed, duplicate, delete, reverse, boomerang and looping; Canvas for crop, resize, rotate, flip and transparency; Adjust for colours; Text for captions with frame ranges; Draw for pixel touch-ups.
- Export a GIF, an animated PNG, PNG frames as a ZIP, the current frame or a sprite sheet. Undo and redo work for every step.
How quality is kept
- No changes: the download is your original file, byte for byte.
- Only timing or looping changed: every frame keeps its original compressed image data.
- Frames removed, reordered or duplicated: frames are re-encoded with their exact colours, so the picture is identical.
- Pixels edited (colour changes, smooth resizing, text, drawing): frames that still fit in 256 colours stay exact; frames that need more colours are reduced to 256, with optional dithering. The export tells you how many frames were reduced.
- For full colour and soft transparency, export an animated PNG (APNG) or PNG frames.

Limits and notes
- Opens GIF files up to 50 MB, 4,096 px per side, 1,000 frames and 80 million decoded pixels (frames × width × height).
- GIF timing is stored in 10 ms steps. Browsers play frames shorter than 20 ms at about 100 ms, so 20 ms is the fastest reliable frame time.
- GIF transparency is on or off per pixel; soft edges and semi-transparent text become fully visible or fully transparent.
- Text uses fonts installed on your device. Drawing works when the canvas is not rotated or flipped.
- Large or long animations need more memory; very large edits may be slow on phones.
Using GIF Editor
Edit an animated GIF frame by frame in your browser: change timing, reorder or remove frames, crop, resize, rotate, adjust colours, add text or draw, then export without losing quality where possible.
- Open a GIF (up to 50 MB, 4,096 px per side and 1,000 frames) by choosing, dropping or pasting it, or combine PNG, JPEG or WebP images into a new animation.
- Select frames in the timeline below the preview: click, Shift-click for a range, Ctrl-click to add, and drag to reorder. Play, step and use onion skin to check motion.
- Use the tabs: Frames (durations, speed, duplicate, delete, reverse, boomerang, looping), Canvas (crop, resize, rotate, flip, transparency), Adjust (colours), Text (captions with frame ranges) and Draw (pixel touch-ups). Every step can be undone.
- Open Export to download a GIF, an animated PNG, PNG frames as a ZIP with timing, the current frame or a sprite sheet. The export panel says whether your GIF is saved losslessly.
Example
Open a reaction GIF, delete the first frames, set the last frame to 1,000 ms, add a bottom caption for frames 5 to the end and export: unedited frames keep their exact colours and the report shows which frames needed colour reduction.
Questions & answers
Does editing reduce GIF quality?
Not unless you change pixels. With no changes the download is the original file. If you only change timing or looping, every frame keeps its original compressed data. Deleting, reordering or duplicating frames re-encodes them with their exact colours. Colour adjustments, smooth resizing, text and soft edges can create more than 256 colours in a frame; only those frames are reduced to 256 colours (dithering optional), and the export tells you how many.
Why do some frames play slower than the time I set?
GIF stores durations in 10 ms steps, and browsers play frames of 10 ms or less at about 100 ms. Use 20 ms or more for reliable fast playback.
Is transparency kept?
Yes. GIF pixels are fully visible or fully transparent, so soft edges are rounded. You can also fill transparent areas with a colour, or export APNG or PNG frames to keep soft transparency.
Which formats can I export?
Animated GIF, animated PNG (APNG), PNG frames in a ZIP with a timing.csv file, the current frame as PNG, or a sprite sheet PNG.
What are the limits?
GIFs up to 50 MB, 4,096 px per side, 1,000 frames and 80 million decoded pixels. Text uses fonts on your device and drawing needs an unrotated, unflipped canvas.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Decoding, editing and encoding all run in your browser.
