IEEE 754 Floating-Point Inspector
Inspect Float32 and Float64 decimal values or exact hexadecimal bits, including sign, exponent, fraction, subnormals and signed zero.
Explore the example, or adjust the inputs. Save a project to keep your settings.
A useful starting point
Float32 0.1 has hexadecimal bits 3DCCCCCD. Inspecting 80000000 as Float32 exposes negative zero.
Scope and limits
IEEE 754 binary32 and binary64 only. Hex input requires exactly 8 or 16 digits. Decimal input is parsed as JavaScript Float64 before optional Float32 rounding.
Calculations run in your browser. Projects are saved only when you download them. Website advertising and analytics follow the privacy and consent settings. Import large integer CSV columns as text in spreadsheets to preserve their digits.
Using IEEE 754 Floating-Point Inspector
Inspect Float32 and Float64 decimal values or exact hexadecimal bits, including sign, exponent, fraction, subnormals and signed zero.
- Choose a worked example or enter your own values in the labeled controls.
- Adjust the available options. Results refresh when you leave a field or choose an option.
- Review the result summary, interpretation and calculation table. Check any explicit limits or assumptions.
- Copy the text or download TXT, CSV or JSON. Save a project to reopen the same inputs later.
Example
Float32 0.1 has hexadecimal bits 3DCCCCCD. Inspecting 80000000 as Float32 exposes negative zero.
Questions & answers
Why does 0.1 change in Float32?
Most decimal fractions cannot be represented exactly in a finite binary fraction. The tool shows the stored value, bits and an exact integer-times-power-of-two expression.
Does hex mode preserve NaN payload bits?
Yes. The fields are read directly from the supplied bit pattern rather than regenerated from a numeric NaN value.
Can I save and reopen my settings?
Yes. Save project downloads a JSON file for this tool. Open project restores it; undo and redo work during the current session.
Does the table contain every result?
The table is paginated in groups of 50. Downloads contain all listed rows. The partition tool intentionally caps its example listing while reporting the full exact count.
