Keyboard Layout Text Recovery

Recover pasted text typed with the wrong keyboard layout. Convert between US QWERTY, Russian JCUKEN and US Dvorak, or supply your own one-to-one mapping. Review every mapping and the reverse check.

1. Observed text & intended layout

250,000 UTF-16 units · UTF-8 files up to 500 KB · 15-second local worker limit. Presets cover ANSI base and Shift characters only.

2. Read and verify

Paste text or try the example.

This remaps characters, not meanings. It cannot reliably infer Caps Lock history, AltGr, dead keys, IME composition or keyboard variants. Mixed-layout text may need separate conversions.

How to recover a wrong-layout sentence

  1. Paste the text you see and choose the layout that was active when you typed it.
  2. Choose the layout you intended and convert. The same physical ANSI key positions are paired.
  3. Review punctuation, unmapped characters and the exact reverse check before copying the result.
  4. Use output & reverse to test the inverse mapping, or use custom strings for a controlled one-to-one replacement.

What is preserved

Characters outside the selected mapping are left unchanged, including spaces and line breaks. They can collide with mapped output, so the round-trip test may fail even when the mapping itself is bijective. An exact reverse check proves reversibility for this text, not that the recovered words are correct.

No system keyboard settings are changed, no global keystrokes are collected and no translation or transliteration service is used. Preset positions were cross-checked against Microsoft keyboard layout tables; regional and custom variants may differ.

Using Keyboard Layout Text Recovery

Recover text produced under a different active keyboard layout through explicit character-position mappings.

  1. Paste observed text and choose its active source layout.
  2. Choose the intended layout or a custom one-to-one mapping.
  3. Review output, unmapped characters and reversibility before copying or downloading.

Example

Convert Ghbdtn from US QWERTY to Russian to recover Привет.

Questions & answers

Is this a translation tool?

No. It pairs characters by keyboard positions or an explicit custom mapping. It does not translate meanings, infer languages or correct spelling.

Which layouts are supported?

ANSI base and Shift characters for US QWERTY, Russian JCUKEN and US Dvorak, plus user-supplied one-to-one strings. Caps Lock history, AltGr, dead keys and IME composition are not modeled.

Why can the reverse check fail?

Unmapped characters are preserved, but may coincide with mapped output. Reversing can then change them. Review mixed-layout text in separate sections.

Does it monitor my keyboard?

No. It processes text entered in this page without collecting global keystrokes or changing system settings.

What are the limits?

Up to 250,000 UTF-16 units, UTF-8 file imports up to 500 KB and a 15-second worker timeout. Custom strings must contain 1–200 unique code points on each side.
