3D Print Model Inspection & Repair

Inspect STL and OBJ meshes for open boundaries, non-manifold edges, duplicates and winding problems. Clean faces, orient surfaces, fill suitable holes and prepare dimensions for your printer.

Open a model or try the sample.

Topology screening is not a printability guarantee. Self-intersections, wall thickness and overlapping shells require further review.

Using 3D Print Model Inspection & Repair

Inspect STL and OBJ meshes for open boundaries, non-manifold edges, duplicates and winding problems. Clean faces, orient surfaces, fill suitable holes and prepare dimensions for your printer.

  1. Open a local STL or OBJ and select its source units. Inspect dimensions, mesh findings and highlighted problem edges.
  2. Use cleanup, orientation and small planar convex hole filling when appropriate. Undo changes, inspect again, scale and place the model on the bed.
  3. Export STL or OBJ and the inspection report. Recheck the output in your slicer; the tool does not validate self-intersections, wall thickness or printer settings.

Example

Try the open-box sample.
It has one missing face pair and a duplicate triangle. Clean duplicates, orient faces, then fill its planar square boundary with a 50 mm diameter limit.

Questions & answers

Does this guarantee a printable model?

No. The tool checks grid-grouped edge topology and face orientation. It does not detect self-intersections, overlapping shells, minimum wall thickness, interior cavities or slicer-specific failures. Review the output in your slicer.

Which holes can be filled?

Only unambiguous boundary loops with at most 128 vertices that are planar and convex, within your diameter limit. Other loops are skipped. Hole filling may close an intentional opening, so inspect and undo when necessary.

What does grid tolerance mean?

Nearby coordinates in the same rounded grid cell are treated as one vertex for topology checks. Cleanup removes collapsed and duplicate faces based on that grouping. Welding explicitly replaces grouped coordinates with shared representative coordinates and can alter small details.

Are units stored in STL?

STL does not specify physical units. Select the source units yourself; coordinates are converted to millimeters. Confirm dimensions after import. Exported STL/OBJ coordinates are in millimeters.

Are materials retained?

This is a geometry-only workflow. OBJ materials, textures, lines, points and names are not retained. STL/OBJ exports contain triangle geometry only.

What does volume mean?

Estimated volume is available only when the inspected mesh has no boundary, non-manifold, inconsistent, duplicate or collapsed face findings. Component volumes are summed without boolean unions, so overlapping shells or nested cavities can make the estimate misleading.

What limits apply?

32 MiB input, 100,000 triangles, 10 undo states with a 32 MiB history budget and coordinates within ±1,000,000 mm. Inspection and repairs use a cancellable worker.

Are models uploaded?

Import, inspection, preview and exports run in your browser. Public page advertising and optional analytics are described in the privacy policy.
