Tileset Creator

Make your own top-down pixel-art tileset in the browser. Pick ground types from the library or design new ones, generate seamless tiles with autotile edges, hills, houses and props, then paint a test map on six layers and export everything for Tiled, Godot, Unity or GameMaker.

How to build a tileset

  1. In Types, keep the starter set or add ground from the library: grass, sand, paths, water, stone and more. Change colours, texture and details.
  2. Choose an autotile set for types that should blend into others, and what they sit on.
  3. Pick tile size, style and variants, objects and the hill and house kits, then press Generate.
  4. Switch to 2 · Paint map to test the tiles, and download the ZIP when you are happy.

Painting the map

The map has six layers – two ground layers, three hill layers and objects. Pick a tile (or drag a block of tiles) from the list and click the map: a tile replaces whatever was in that cell on the selected layer. The ✨ Autotile brush is optional and picks the right edge tile for you. Stack hills on higher layers and cover the end of a lower wall with the next hill’s edge, as in a hand-made map.

Shortcuts: B brush, E erase, F fill, I pick (or right-click), A autotile, H hill, 1–6 layer, Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Y.

What you get

Every tile is drawn at its real size – one art pixel is one pixel in the PNG. Terrain repeats seamlessly and variants share their edges, so a field never looks like a grid. The ZIP holds the tileset PNG, a JSON tile list with autotile masks, a Tiled tileset with terrain sets, the painted map as TMX and PNG, and a project file to keep editing.

Everything is generated on your device; nothing is uploaded. You may use the tiles in free and commercial games without attribution.

Questions & answers

Are the tiles really seamless?

Yes. Every ground type is generated from patterns that wrap exactly at the tile edge, so a tile repeats in X and Y without a seam. Variants change only the inside of a tile and share identical edges, so you can mix them at random and the grid disappears.

Can I make my own tile types?

Yes. Start from the library (grass, sand, dirt, water, lava, cobble, bricks and more) or a blank type, then change the pattern, three colours, contrast, small details and how its edges blend into the ground below.

What is a blob-47 autotile?

A set of 47 tiles that covers every way a ground type can touch its 8 neighbours, including inner and outer corners. The Autotile brush picks the right tile for you. The JSON lists the neighbour mask of each tile and the TSX turns each set into a Tiled terrain set.

How do hills work?

Hills are placed by hand from a kit, like a hand-made tileset: top edges and corners, inner corners, wall pieces that repeat for any height, stairs, a cave and step pieces. Put each hill on its own layer and let a higher hill cover the end of a lower wall.

How does the map editor work?

The map has six layers. Pick a tile or a block of tiles and click the map; it replaces that cell on the selected layer. There are also erase, fill, pick, autotile and hill tools, undo and redo, and the map exports as a Tiled TMX with the same six layers.

Pixel art or painted?

Pixel art draws every tile at its real size and snaps colours to each type’s own palette, with hand-made details like grass tufts and wave crests. Painted keeps smooth gradients. Nothing is upscaled.

Which engines are supported?

Tiled reads the .tsx and .tmx directly, including the terrain sets. Godot, Unity, GameMaker and others can import the PNG as a tile atlas using the tile size; the JSON describes every tile and the autotile masks.

Can I use the tiles in a commercial game?

Yes. The tiles are generated on your device from the settings and seed you choose. You may use them in free and commercial games without attribution.

Is anything uploaded?

No. Tiles are generated in your browser in a background worker. Save a project file to continue later.
