A SMALL TOOL FOR A REAL PROBLEM

Subtitle Timing Editor

Fix subtitles that arrive too early, too late, or gradually drift out of sync. Preview exact cue changes before saving SRT or WebVTT.

1. Open subtitles & set timing

Positive shift means later. Multipliers below 1 compress the timeline. Limit: 2,000 cues / 300,000 characters. Plain cues only: VTT header metadata, styles, regions and inline word timestamps are rejected rather than lost.

2. Review & save

Ready. Try the example to see how it works.

Using Subtitle Timing Editor

Correct cue timing in ordinary SRT or standalone WebVTT files without uploading a video.

  1. Open or paste subtitles and try the example to see the before/after timing.
  2. Enter a delay, a time multiplier, or two matching subtitle/video anchors. Enable clamping only if dropping or shortening negative cues is intended.
  3. Preview the corrected cues, review overlap and format warnings, then save subtitles or a timing report.

Example

The example starts at 1 second. A +1 second shift moves its first cue to 2 seconds.
The 24 → 25 fps preset multiplies cue times by 0.96; it does not change the video itself.

Questions & answers

How do I make subtitles appear earlier?

Use a negative shift in seconds. Positive shifts make cues appear later. The original subtitle source stays unchanged.

What fixes subtitles that drift over time?

Use a time multiplier or the two-anchor method. Pick the same two spoken moments in the subtitle and video timelines; the tool calculates a linear timing correction.

What happens to cues before zero?

Processing stops unless you explicitly enable clamping. With clamping, negative starts become zero and cues ending at or before zero are dropped. These changes are reported.

Does it remove overlapping subtitles?

No. It reports overlaps but preserves them because simultaneous speakers and intentional positioning can use overlapping cues.

Which WebVTT features are supported?

Ordinary cues, cue identifiers and cue placement settings are supported. Header metadata, NOTE/STYLE/REGION blocks and inline word timestamps are rejected. SRT export cannot retain VTT placement settings.

Is timing frame-perfect?

Output timestamps are rounded to milliseconds. Frame-rate presets apply a timeline multiplier and do not inspect the media or guarantee frame alignment.

Are subtitle files uploaded?

Parsing and correction run locally. This tool does not upload your subtitles for processing; the website privacy policy covers advertising and analytics.
