Questions & answers
Which files can I import?
Markdown, plain text and HTML become chapters. DOCX import extracts headings, paragraphs, basic emphasis, lists and table text; images and complex Word layouts are omitted with a warning. Unencrypted EPUB files can be reopened with readable spine chapters and supported local JPG/PNG images.
Does EPUB preserve an exact page layout?
EPUB is reflowable. Reader apps can change fonts, sizes and margins. The exported book includes your default typography, chapter navigation, metadata, cover and table of contents.
What does direct PDF export preserve?
Direct PDF creates selectable text with chapter headings, paragraphs, lists, page numbers and a cover. Rich inline formatting, links, tables and chapter images are simplified to text. Its standard fonts support a limited Latin character range; use Print / Save PDF for browser-rendered typography and other scripts.
Can I make a cover here?
Yes. Use the built-in cover designer with title, subtitle, author and preset color pairs, or upload a local JPG/PNG/WebP cover. Uploaded covers are resized for efficient export.
Are my files uploaded?
Book editing and exports run locally in your browser without a processing upload. Advertising and analytics follow the website privacy policy.
Can I save my work?
Download an Ebook Builder JSON project. It retains chapter source, metadata, typography and embedded images. This page does not automatically save your writing to a server or browser storage.
What are the limits?
Up to 60 chapters, one million source characters per chapter and six million in total. Imports are at most 20 MiB each; EPUB/DOCX archives have an expanded-size limit. Embedded local image data remains in the saved project.
Is the export certified by EPUBCheck?
The tool checks its own metadata and chapter structure and creates an EPUB 3 package. It does not run the external EPUBCheck validator; publishing services may require additional validation.
