How to use the Gantt chart maker
  1. Tasks: type a name, the number of working days and, if needed, a start date. Press Enter in a name to add the next task. Milestones have zero days and are shown as diamonds.
  2. Phases: add a phase and indent tasks under it (⇥ or Tab in a name). The phase bar spans its tasks and shows their combined progress. Click ▸ to collapse it.
  3. Dependencies: drag the small dot at the end of a bar onto another bar, use 🔗 Link to chain a task to the one above, or add links with a lag in the Task tab. Linked tasks move automatically when earlier work changes.
  4. Reschedule: drag a bar to move it, drag its right edge to change its length. A task cannot start before the work it depends on is done.
  5. Critical path: red bars have no slack. Any delay on them delays the whole project. The Project tab shows totals, workload per person and tasks that are behind.
  6. Save: autosave keeps a copy in this browser. Save project downloads a file to continue later; export CSV for spreadsheets, or PNG and PDF to share.

Durations count working days only (Monday to Friday by default; change it in Project). Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

Using Gantt Chart Maker & Project Planner

Plan any project on a visual timeline. Add tasks with durations in working days, group them into phases, add milestones and link tasks so their dates move automatically. Drag bars to reschedule, see the critical path that sets your finish date and track progress and workload per person.

  1. Pick a template (website launch, event, software release, renovation, marketing campaign, thesis) or start a new empty project.
  2. Type task names, working days and, if needed, a fixed start date. Press Enter in a name to add the next task and Tab to put it into the phase above.
  3. Link tasks: drag the dot at the end of a bar onto another bar, use Link to chain a task to the one above, or add links with a lag in the Task tab.
  4. Drag bars to move them and drag the right edge to change the duration. Red bars are on the critical path; set progress to track what is done.
  5. Check totals, workload and late tasks in the Project tab, then save the project file or export CSV, PNG or PDF.

Example

A website launch with 10 tasks and 4 phases starting on a Monday finishes after about 40 working days. Making the visual design 3 days longer moves every dependent task and the go-live date by 3 working days, because that task is on the critical path.
Writing content has 10 days of slack, so it can slip by up to two weeks without changing the launch date.

Questions & answers

Is this Gantt chart maker free?

Yes. It is free, needs no account and runs entirely in your browser. Your project is not uploaded anywhere.

How do task dependencies work?

A linked task starts after the task it depends on ends (finish-to-start) or together with its start (start-to-start). You can add a lag in working days, or a negative lag to let tasks overlap. When an earlier task moves, every task after it moves too.

What is the critical path?

It is the chain of tasks with no slack. If any of them takes longer, the whole project finishes later. Those bars are shown in red; other tasks show how many days they can slip.

Are weekends and holidays skipped?

Yes. Durations count working days only. Monday to Friday is the default; choose other working days and add holidays in the Project tab.

Can I import my tasks from Excel or Google Sheets?

Yes. Export your sheet as CSV and import it. Columns such as Task, Start, End, Duration, Progress, Assignee, Phase and Depends on are recognised by their names.

How do I save or share my chart?

Autosave keeps a copy in this browser. Save project downloads a file you can open again later or send to a colleague. PNG and PDF exports are good for reports and printing; CSV opens in spreadsheets.

Does it replace full project management software?

It covers planning, scheduling, dependencies, progress and workload for small and medium projects. It does not have shared online editing, cost tracking or resource levelling.
