Using JSON Flatten & Unflatten
Convert nested JSON into a reversible JSON Pointer path table, edit values, and rebuild objects and arrays while preserving large numbers and empty containers.
- Paste nested JSON or use the example, then choose Flatten.
- Inspect the path/type/value table or save the complete flat JSON report. Edit primitive value strings in that report if needed.
- Choose Rebuild from flat report, paste the report into the input, and download the reconstructed JSON.
Example
Try the included editable example. Inspect the path/type/value table or save the complete flat JSON report. Edit primitive value strings in that report if needed.
Questions & answers
Why use JSON Pointer paths?
They avoid ambiguity when object keys contain dots, slashes or tildes. Slashes escape as ~1 and tildes as ~0. The root path is an empty string.
Are large numbers preserved?
Yes. Primitive values store their original raw JSON text as a string. Rebuilding validates this text and emits it without converting through JavaScript floating-point numbers.
Can I edit a value?
Edit the value string in a primitive entry and keep its declared type consistent. A JSON string value needs its surrounding JSON quotes inside the value field.
Are empty objects and arrays kept?
Yes. Containers have explicit entries. Arrays use contiguous indices from zero; missing indices and children of a primitive entry are rejected.
What happens to duplicate keys?
Flatten rejects duplicate object keys because they would create duplicate paths. Rebuild rejects duplicate paths, invalid pointer escapes and missing parents.
What are the limits?
Input is limited to 100,000 characters and 5,000 nodes. Rebuilt documents support up to 64 nested levels. The preview and CSV show the first 1,000 entries; complete JSON exports retain every entry.
