Using Online Whiteboard
A free infinite whiteboard for brainstorming, workshops, lesson planning and quick sketches, with no account to create. Drop sticky notes, draw with a pen or highlighter, add shapes and connect them with arrows that stay attached when you move things, write text, paste images and group work into frames. Start from a template, then export a PNG, SVG or PDF, or save the board as a file to keep working later.
- Pick a tool in the top bar or press its key: N sticky note, R rectangle, O ellipse, D diamond, A arrow, P pen, K highlighter, T text, F frame.
- Click to place a default-size item or drag to size it. Double-click anywhere to type text, or double-click a shape or note to edit its text.
- Draw an arrow from one shape to another, or drag one of the round handles around a selected shape, to connect them. Connected arrows follow the shapes when you move them.
- Select with a click or by dragging a box; move, resize with the corner handles, and change colours, line style, arrowheads and text size in the style panel.
- Zoom with the mouse wheel or pinch, pan with the hand tool or by holding Space, then export from the menu or save the board.
Example
For a team retrospective, open Menu → Templates → Retrospective, then add sticky notes to the What went well, What to improve and Ideas columns and export a PNG for the meeting notes. Sketch a sign-up flow: draw rectangles for each screen, connect them with arrows, label the arrows yes/no, then move the screens around – the arrows stay attached.
Questions & answers
Is this a free alternative to Miro or Excalidraw?
Yes for working on your own: sticky notes, shapes, connected arrows, freehand drawing, images, frames, templates and exports are free with no account. It does not offer real-time collaboration; share an exported image or the saved board file instead.
Where is my board saved?
In your browser on this device, automatically as you work. Use Menu → Save board to keep a .json file that you can open again here on any computer.
How do I connect shapes with arrows?
Choose the arrow tool (A) and drag from one shape to another, or select a shape and drag one of the round handles next to it. The ends stick to the shapes, so arrows follow when you move them.
Can I add pictures?
Yes. Use the image tool, paste an image with Ctrl+V or drag a file onto the board. Large photos are resized so the board stays fast.
How do I zoom and pan?
Use the mouse wheel or pinch to zoom, and hold Space and drag, use the hand tool (H) or drag with two fingers to pan. Shift+1 fits everything on screen.
Can I export only part of the board?
Yes. Select the items or a frame, then tick Only the selection in the menu before exporting PNG, SVG or PDF.
Does it work on tablets and phones?
Yes. Draw with a finger or stylus, pinch to zoom and drag with one finger on empty space to move around.
