PDF Metadata Editor
Inspect a PDF's title, author, subject, keywords and dates. Edit or clear the standard fields and create a new static PDF copy, keeping page artwork and text separate from document properties.
Static-copy workflow: Output rebuilds the pages into a new document. Forms, signatures, annotations and links are unsupported. Bookmarks, attachments, document XMP, layer controls, tags, page labels and other document-level features are not retained. This is not a redaction or complete sanitization tool: visible content, image metadata and other embedded data can remain. Review the downloaded copy before replacing your original.
1. Inspect your PDF
Up to 500 pages. The existing PDF validation rejects forms, signatures and encryption; this tool additionally rejects annotations or links. Original date values are shown in UTC when readable.
2. Edit standard document properties
Leave a field blank to omit it from the new copy. Dates require a real UTC date/time in YYYY-MM-DDTHH:mm:ssZ format with whole seconds. Each keyword is separated by a comma; up to 40 keywords.
Choose a PDF or try the local demo.
3. Download & review
No edited copy generated yet.
The JSON report includes original and edited standard properties plus omitted feature names. Metadata changes do not edit names or text printed on a page. PDF/A, PDF/UA and original signing/archival compliance are not preserved or validated by this rebuilding workflow.
Uses the website's existing PDF library and validation code in a cancelable browser worker. Metadata text limits: 400 characters per field, 2,000 total keyword characters, 40 keywords. Output up to 50 MiB. Setting edits clear previous downloads. No processing upload or saved PDF history. Website ads and analytics follow the privacy information.
Using PDF Metadata Editor
Inspect standard properties, edit them and rebuild static pages into a new PDF with a clear account of document-level features that are omitted.
- Open one unencrypted static PDF or try the local demo. Review its properties and static-copy limitations.
- Edit or clear title, author, subject, comma-separated keywords, creator, producer and UTC dates. Restore original fields if needed.
- Build the static copy, download it and its JSON report, and inspect the pages/properties before replacing your original.
Example
Set title to Project notes and author to your publication name; leave keyword/date fields blank to omit them. Clearing standard metadata does not remove a name printed in page text or embedded image metadata.
Questions & answers
Does it modify my original PDF?
No. It creates a downloadable static copy from the source pages. The original local file is not changed.
Which PDFs are supported?
One valid, unencrypted static PDF up to 20 MiB and 500 pages. Forms, signatures, widgets, annotations and links are rejected. Use the original PDF editor when preserving those features matters.
What is preserved in the copy?
Page artwork, text and source page geometry are copied with the existing PDF library. Document-level bookmarks, attachments, XMP, layer controls, tags, page labels, actions and other catalog features are not carried into the new document. Review pages and properties after export.
Does clearing properties remove personal information?
It omits the editable standard document fields in the new copy. It does not redact visible page text or guarantee complete metadata/content sanitization. Image metadata and other embedded data can remain; use an appropriate redaction/sanitization workflow for that purpose.
What happens to XMP metadata?
Document-level XMP is not carried into the rebuilt PDF catalog. The edited standard fields are written to the new document properties. This does not guarantee removal of all embedded metadata or bytes.
How do blank fields and keywords work?
Blank fields are omitted from the new document. Keywords are comma-separated, up to 40 entries and 2,000 total characters. Other text fields allow 400 characters; Unicode is supported in metadata.
How do dates work?
Readable original dates are displayed in UTC. Enter YYYY-MM-DDTHH:mm:ssZ with whole seconds, or leave blank to omit a date. Invalid calendar dates are rejected.
Can metadata changes update page text?
No. Document properties are separate from printed page content. Changing the author field does not change an author name drawn on a page.
Does it preserve PDF/A or accessibility certification?
No. Rebuilding pages can omit tags and other required document features. PDF/A, PDF/UA and original signing/archival compliance are not retained or validated. Use suitable authoring software for those requirements.
Are PDFs uploaded?
Inspection and creation run in a cancelable local browser worker, without processing uploads or saved PDF history. Website ads and analytics follow the privacy information.
