Resistor Color Code Calculator
Read common 4-band and 5-band resistor colors and their tolerance range.
1. Set up your calculation
Reads standard digit/multiplier/tolerance bands; orientation and faded colors must be checked on the component. Six-band temperature coefficients and special markings are not included.
2. Review & use your result
Review the example inputs, then use read resistor.

Using Resistor Color Code Calculator
Read common 4-band and 5-band resistor colors and their tolerance range.
- Enter number of bands and first digit. Try the example to see the format.
- Read resistor and review the result, including the assumptions shown below the inputs.
- Copy, download or print your result. Editing an input clears the previous result.
Example
The included example: Resistance (Ω) — 1,000; Resistance (kΩ) — 1. Change the inputs and generate a new result to compare it.
Questions & answers
How do I use this tool?
Read common 4-band and 5-band resistor colors and their tolerance range. Load the editable example, replace its values and use the main action button.
What should I check before using the result?
Reads standard digit/multiplier/tolerance bands; orientation and faded colors must be checked on the component. Six-band temperature coefficients and special markings are not included.
Are my entries saved?
Processing runs in your browser without a tool account or saved history. Download your result to keep a copy. Website advertising follows our privacy information.
Can I export or print it?
Copy and file download are available after generating a result. Print produces a clean copy of the visible result; use your browser’s Save as PDF option if needed.
What changes between four and five bands?
Four bands use two significant digits, a multiplier and tolerance. Five bands use three significant digits before the multiplier and tolerance. The color preview follows the selected order.
