Questions & answers

What number formats are accepted?

Use a decimal point, an optional sign and optional exponent, such as −12.5 or 1e3. Thousands separators and partial numbers are rejected. Batch input uses one value per line, up to 200 values.

Why distinguish US and imperial gallons or tons?

These units have different sizes. The labels distinguish US liquid gallons, imperial gallons, metric tonnes, US short tons and UK long tons.

How are very small numbers displayed?

Values that would round to zero at the chosen precision use scientific notation. Displayed results are rounded and use ordinary floating-point arithmetic.

Are temperatures below absolute zero accepted?

No. Absolute temperatures below −273.15 °C, 0 K or the corresponding Fahrenheit value are rejected. This converter handles absolute readings, not temperature differences.

Is conversion history saved permanently?

No. Only manual conversions are shown in page memory; history disappears when the page closes.
