Audio Bitcrusher & Lo-Fi Maker
Create retro and lo-fi audio with bit-depth reduction, sample hold, drive, tone filtering and wet/dry controls. Preview and export WAV or MP3 locally.
1. Open audio or try a demo
Drop a mono or stereo file up to 20 MiB and 180 decoded seconds. Process up to 120 seconds; formats depend on your browser.
Try the demo to hear the effect before opening your own recording.
2. Shape the sound
Sample hold repeats a sample for N input frames; it does not change the output sample rate. Tone filtering follows quantization. Use lower drive to avoid intentional distortion.
3. Trim, compare & export
No source loaded.
Original · full source
Edited audio · selected trim
Peak protection attenuates the full result if needed to keep samples below 0.98. It does not normalize loudness. MP3 is lossy; tags are not copied. Changes clear the previous result until you render again.
Using Audio Bitcrusher & Lo-Fi Maker
Create retro and lo-fi audio with bit-depth reduction, sample hold, drive, tone filtering and wet/dry controls. Preview and export WAV or MP3 locally.
- Open an audio file or try the built-in demo. The original player plays the complete source.
- Choose a preset and adjust controls. Set trim start/end in seconds and choose WAV or MP3.
- Create edited audio, compare playback and download the audio or settings report. Editing a control requires rendering again.
Example
Try the demo and choose Subtle crunch. Compare the original and edited players; adjust effect mix to hear more or less of the effect.
Questions & answers
Are files uploaded?
No. Decoding, DSP and encoding run locally. Audio and filenames are not saved between visits.
What does this effect do?
Sample hold repeats a sample for N input frames; it does not change the output sample rate. Tone filtering follows quantization. Use lower drive to avoid intentional distortion.
Can I process only part of a recording?
Yes. Trim start/end are seconds in the original decoded source. The original player still plays the full source; the result contains your selection and any chosen reverb tail.
What does effect mix mean?
Zero percent keeps the original selected audio. One hundred percent uses the processed sound. Output gain and fades are still applied. Reverb is wet-only at 100 percent.
How are clipping and volume handled?
Peak protection reduces the whole output when its peak exceeds 0.98. The report shows the peak before protection and the attenuation factor. This is not a LUFS loudness normalizer.
Which formats and limits apply?
Open mono/stereo files up to 20 MiB and 180 decoded seconds. Select up to 120 seconds. Browser decoding support varies. WAV exports 16-bit PCM and MP3 uses the existing local 192 kbps encoder. Clear audio releases source and download URLs.
