Scope and practical limits

Up to 5,000 items and 50,000 characters per input. JSON pairs preserve null for missing partners and empty strings for real empty items. Unzip accepts pairs of strings or null; it does not parse arbitrary delimited tables.

The tool processes your work in the browser. The website’s advertising and analytics follow its privacy and consent settings. Projects are not saved automatically. Media workspaces export their files directly rather than storing them in project JSON.

Using List Pairing & Unzip Workbench

Pair two lists by position, handle unmatched items explicitly and split JSON pairs back into columns with lossless JSON and CSV exports.

  1. Start with the example or paste your own items. Review empty-line and trim settings.
  2. Choose the operation and review the preview, counts and table.
  3. Copy the output, download the full result or save a project for later.

Example

List A: Ada, Grace, Linus (one per line). List B: Engineering, Research (one per line).
Keep unmatched produces [["Ada","Engineering"],["Grace","Research"],["Linus",null]].

Questions & answers

Is this a database join?

No. It pairs items by position. It does not look up keys or generate every combination.

What happens when one list is longer?

Keep unmatched adds null partners, require equal rejects the input, and shortest deliberately omits unmatched items with an omission count.

Can I unzip the output?

Yes. Choose unzip and paste the JSON pairs. Download each column as JSON to preserve nulls, empty items and embedded newlines.
