Look-and-Say Sequence Explorer
Explore the look-and-say sequence from your own digit seed. Generate terms, compare lengths and growth, inspect digit counts and export complete or final-term results.
1. Set up your input
Read each consecutive run as its count followed by its digit: 111 becomes 31. The starting seed is term 1. Up to 40 terms are allowed, with per-term and total-output limits for seeds that expand quickly.
2. Preview & use the result

Using Look-and-Say Sequence Explorer
Explore the look-and-say sequence from your own digit seed. Generate terms, compare lengths and growth, inspect digit counts and export complete or final-term results.
- Enter a string of 1–100 digits. Use 1 for the classic sequence or try 22 for a fixed-point example.
- Choose how many terms to generate and whether to export every term, only the last term or a length table.
- Inspect term lengths and growth ratios, then save text or JSON including all generated terms and digit frequencies.
Example
Read each consecutive run as its count followed by its digit: 111 becomes 31. The starting seed is term 1. Up to 40 terms are allowed, with per-term and total-output limits for seeds that expand quickly.
Questions & answers
What does look-and-say mean?
Describe each consecutive digit run. For 111221, the runs are three ones, two twos and one one, so the next term is 312211.
Is this ordinary number arithmetic?
No. Seeds are digit strings. Leading zeros matter, and run counts can contain multiple digits.
Why does 22 stay the same?
It reads as two twos, producing 22 again. Different seeds need not follow the same behavior as the classic seed 1.
Can it generate unlimited terms?
No. Limits are 40 terms, 200,000 digits in one term and 1.5 million generated digits in total. Reduce the count if your seed expands too far.
