Layered Photo Editor
Edit photos and create designs with layers, masks, brushes, selections, text, shapes and blend modes. Keep edits in a saved project and export PNG, JPEG, WebP or a layer ZIP.
Ready. Try the example or add a photo.
Drag layers to move. Drag the bottom-right handle to resize. Shift constrains resize proportions. Arrow keys nudge; Shift + arrow moves 10 pixels.
PNG and WebP can preserve transparency. JPEG uses the export background. This editor saves its own project format; it does not read or write PSD.
Using Layered Photo Editor
Edit photos and create designs with layers, masks, brushes, selections, text, shapes and blend modes. Keep edits in a saved project and export PNG, JPEG, WebP or a layer ZIP.
- Add your photo or try the sample design. Expand workspace gives the canvas and panels the whole window.
- Choose a layer, use the icon tools, and switch Style, Position, Adjust or Mask tabs. Fit/Fill/Center actions arrange layers; quick looks remain editable and undoable.
- Use Space + drag to pan, zoom buttons or Ctrl + wheel to zoom, and Hide/Restore for reversible cutouts. Save an editable project before downloading your finished image.
Example
Create a social graphic: add a photo, add a translucent rectangle behind a title, then paint a mask to hide part of a layer. Use Undo to compare and save a project before exporting.
Questions & answers
Can I reopen my layers?
Download a Layered Photo Editor JSON project. It contains embedded PNG pixels, masks, text, shapes, transforms and adjustments. Open project restores them. PSD files cannot be imported or exported.
What is a mask?
A mask controls visibility without deleting source pixels. Hide paints transparent areas into the mask; Restore paints them opaque. Disable or remove a mask to reveal the original layer. Mask preview shows its opacity.
Do brushes work on text and shapes?
Choosing Brush over text or shapes creates a separate paint layer. Rasterize if you want to edit the original layer pixels. Eraser works on raster layers; masks work on every layer type.
How do selections work?
Drag a rectangular selection on the canvas. It limits brush and mask strokes. Keep selection adds or replaces the selected layer mask, and can be inverted. Clear selection removes the boundary. This version has no polygon, lasso or automatic subject selection.
Are adjustments destructive?
Brightness, contrast, saturation, grayscale, invert and sepia remain editable layer settings. Rasterize or merge bakes the rendered appearance into pixels and resets the settings.
Which exports preserve transparency?
PNG and WebP preserve transparency. JPEG flattens the composition over the export background you choose. Layer ZIP includes independent rendered layers, mask images and an editable project.
What are the limits?
Canvas sizes from 64 to 2048 pixels per edge, up to four million pixels. Up to 20 layers and 32 million raster pixels including masks. Projects up to 40 million characters; undo up to 20 steps within a 60 million character budget.
Are images uploaded?
No processing upload is used. All editing and export run locally in your browser. Ads and analytics follow the website privacy information.
How do I zoom and move around the canvas?
Use Fit or the zoom controls. Hold Space and drag, or drag with the middle mouse button, to pan a zoomed canvas. Ctrl + mouse wheel changes zoom. Expand workspace keeps the editor together; Escape exits.
