XML String List Converter
Convert text lines into escaped XML items and import a strict XML string list into JSON while preserving empty items and decoded special characters.
Ready. Explore the example or use the input controls to begin.
Scope and practical limits
Up to 50,000 input characters and 5,000 items. The supported schema is an unnamespaced list root with item children containing text or CDATA. Attributes, nested elements, DTDs and custom entities are rejected. This is a string-list converter, not a general XML-to-JSON mapper.
The tool processes your work in the browser. The website’s advertising and analytics follow its privacy and consent settings. Projects are not saved automatically. Media workspaces export their files directly rather than storing them in project JSON.
Using XML String List Converter
Convert text lines into escaped XML items and import a strict XML string list into JSON while preserving empty items and decoded special characters.
- Enter or import your list and select its actual input format.
- Choose the output format and review item counts, types and validation messages.
- Download the output or a JSON list; save a project to keep your editable settings.
Example
Input lines: A & B, <example>, an empty line and 😀. XML escapes ampersands/angle brackets and preserves the empty item. Importing the XML produces a JSON string array.
Questions & answers
What XML structure can I import?
Use <list>
value

</list>. Item values are strings; text and CDATA are accepted.
Can XML entities access local files or a URL?
DTD and entity declarations are rejected. Only standard XML escaping is supported; this tool does not fetch external content.
Are literal XML line endings retained exactly?
XML parsers normalize literal CR and CRLF according to XML rules. Import exports JSON so decoded line breaks remain inside their item.
