PDN Preview & Image Converter
Open supported Paint.NET files, preview their stored composite, extract bitmap layers or turn a PNG into a verified single-layer PDN.
Open a PDN or image
PDN: 32 MiB, PDN3 bitmap documents, up to 64 layers and 16 million combined pixels. PNG/JPG/WebP: 20 MiB. Each image: 4 million pixels and 4,096 pixels per side.
Open a file or try the example.
This is a converter, not a Paint.NET editor. Imported PDN files show individual raw layers; this tool does not recreate the blended document preview. Extracted layers omit rendered masks, layer effects and adjustment compositing. PDN export creates one bitmap layer from your selected image; it does not rewrite the original document. History, selections, plugin data and unsupported newer PDN features are not preserved.

Processing runs locally using the adapted paintdotjs codec. Source files remain unchanged. PNG and single-layer PDN exports preserve decoded 8-bit RGBA, not every source feature or profile.
Using PDN Preview & Image Converter
Convert supported PDN3 bitmap layer data locally, with clear limits on document fidelity.
- Open a PDN3 document or a PNG/JPG/WebP image.
- Choose a raw bitmap layer to preview. Imported PDN files do not include a recreated composite preview.
- Download the selected PNG, extract a layer ZIP or create a verified new single-layer PDN.
Example
Try the transparent example, export a PDN and reopen it to recover its raw pixels.
Questions & answers
Which PDN files work?
PDN3 documents with supported bitmap layers and basic layer properties, within the 32 MiB, 64-layer and 16 million decoded-pixel limits. Compatibility with every Paint.NET version is not guaranteed.
Is this a full Paint.NET editor?
No. It extracts raw layers and creates new single-layer files. It does not preserve history, selections, plugin data or all modern Paint.NET features.
Does the preview reproduce blended layers?
No. Choose individual bitmap layers. Raw layer previews do not apply document opacity or blend effects. Layer metadata is included in ZIP manifests.
How is export verified?
The new single-layer PDN is decoded again and its raw RGBA pixels compared with the input. Independent Paint.NET compatibility remains subject to the supported PDN3 codec.
