Select a frame

Drag frames to reorder, or use Move earlier/later. Undo covers the last 20 frame edits. Opening, clearing or re-slicing starts a new history. Names are made unique to avoid ZIP collisions.

Extract frames without guessing

Check the grid overlay before slicing. Margins start the grid inside the sheet; gaps skip separator pixels between frames. Atlas JSON restores original frame dimensions when transparent edges were trimmed.

Need a new character instead? Character Sprite Sheet Creator generates animated characters from built-in parts. Use the Pixel Art & Sprite Editor to draw or edit pixels.

Limits: 100 frames · 20 MiB per image · 4096 px per edge · 16,777,216 total frame pixels. PNG/JPG/WebP only; animated imports use the first decoded frame. Export your work before closing this tab.

Using Sprite Sheet Slicer & Animator

Split a sprite sheet into PNG frames, adjust grid margins and spacing, import unrotated atlas JSON, preview animation timing and export a frame ZIP with a timing manifest.

  1. Open a sprite sheet image, or try the built-in character sample.
  2. Enter frame width and height, margins and gaps, or load the matching unrotated atlas JSON. Press Slice sheet to apply grid changes.
  3. Check the outlines, exclude empty cells, reorder frames and preview normal, reverse or ping-pong playback.
  4. Download the selected frame, or export all retained frames as PNG files with a JSON timing manifest.

Example

Try the 4-column sample, slice its 32 × 32 cells, then use ping-pong playback and export the individual frames.

Questions & answers

Can I extract sprites from any sheet?

Regular grids are supported using frame size, margins and gaps. Irregular atlases need matching JSON hash or JSON array metadata. Automatic object detection and rotated atlas frames are not supported.

What happens to partial cells at the image edges?

Only complete cells are extracted. The grid report shows how many complete cells fit. First cell is one-based; frame count limits extraction to at most 100 frames.

Can I recover trimmed animation frames?

Yes, when atlas JSON supplies sourceSize and spriteSourceSize. Frames are restored to their original transparent canvas and offsets. This avoids the jumping caused by independently centering cropped frames.

Does it export GIF or video?

This tool exports PNG frames and timing JSON. Use GIF Maker for GIF/APNG output, or GIF to CSS Sprite Converter when starting from an animation.

Does changing playback order change my export?

Reverse and ping-pong are preview modes. The ZIP keeps the visible frame-list order; its manifest includes the preview mode and each frame’s duration. Use the actual reorder controls to change exported frame order.

Can I slice the same image again?

Yes. Changing grid settings does not alter the source sheet. Slice sheet replaces the current extracted frame list, including its ordering and timing. The original file is unchanged.

What are the limits?

Up to 100 frames, 20 MiB per image, 4096 pixels per edge and 16,777,216 total decoded frame pixels. Sheets are also limited to that pixel budget. Animated image imports use only the browser-decoded first frame. Large files can use substantial browser memory.

Are images uploaded?

Processing and downloads happen in your browser. There is no processing upload or automatic project storage. Advertising and optional analytics follow the website privacy and consent settings.
