Drop-frame adjusts labels rather than removing video frames. This calculator uses exact rational rates and does not read media metadata. At 59.94 it displays a 60-frame field; some editors use paired 30-frame displays. Confirm your editor’s convention before copying values.

Using Video Timecode & Frame Calculator

Convert video timecodes, frame counts and seconds with exact fractional rates, drop-frame label checks, frame offsets and exclusive-end clip duration calculations.

  1. Choose the input format, exact frame rate and drop/non-drop numbering. Use the example to see a valid 29.97 drop-frame minute boundary.
  2. Enter a start value and optionally an end in the same format. Apply a signed frame offset and choose how decimal seconds round to frames.
  3. Calculate and inspect the frame count, timecode and elapsed seconds. Copy/export JSON with exact duration fractions, or export the table as CSV.

Example

Try the included editable example.
Enter a start value and optionally an end in the same format. Apply a signed frame offset and choose how decimal seconds round to frames.

Questions & answers

Does drop-frame remove frames from a video?

No. It skips selected timecode labels. At 29.97, labels 00 and 01 are skipped at the start of each minute except every tenth minute; at 59.94 the skipped labels are 00 through 03.

Are 29.97 and 59.94 exact decimal rates here?

No. Those presets mean 30000/1001 and 60000/1001 frames per second. Likewise 23.976 means 24000/1001. Arithmetic uses integer fractions to avoid floating-point drift.

Can I use drop-frame with 23.976?

No. This version supports drop-frame only for the 30000/1001 and 60000/1001 presets. Use colon-separated non-drop timecodes for other rates.

How is clip duration counted?

The interval includes the start and excludes the end. Two equal endpoints produce zero frames. If your editor uses an inclusive final frame, move the end one frame forward before calculating.

What happens at midnight?

Hours continue beyond 24 rather than wrapping. An end earlier than the start is rejected. Use an explicit later hour when an interval crosses a day boundary.

What limits apply?

Frame counts and adjusted results range from zero to 1,000,000,000,000. Decimal seconds support up to six fractional digits. Timecodes require valid minute/second/frame fields and the matching colon or semicolon. Seconds displays are rounded to six decimals; exact fractions are in JSON.
